05.22.09, 10am...
No posts here in 2 years, 2 months, and 2 weeks. It is all because I never spent time bonding with my blog, calling it "Bloggy" and cradling it while it slept. Actually, it turns out I'm a much better blogger in bite-sized format. Come be my friend on FB. I'm the one and only Matthew Haggett in Portland, Oregon USA.
I'm currently editing this clunky site for the transition from Blik to Scribbles as my primary production partner. So I gotta keep editing. And I say "clunky" but it all works A-OK. PayPal does the shopping cart -- it is just not very one-click.
Upgrading this site is up on the list soon, too. It is from 2006 & needs to be rebuilt out of a better CMS.

It amazes me how NOT a blogger I am... I'm just not consistent with being like 'I did this, I did that... oh my precious opinions!' That being said...

Something random I made today: OPEN IT. My friend Ian (designer MONKEY 23.COM and music lover MONKEY HOMEGROWN MUSIC and general freak IAN ZONE) sent me a couple MPGs of people dancing all freaky like during Goa Gil GOA GIL SITE show in Rio. I made random art with them. Enjoy.

Except for the instructions pages, this site's content is just about done. While this makes me happy, my brain has merged with the computer screen after N days in a row of work. What would be really great would be to turn off this computer & watch some TV. Like a computer screen but 10' away. That'll be sweet.
Well, my sesque-annual Butters show (every year and a half +/-) is now done. Tomorrow I'll go and dismantle the installation. The wall, window, and floor applications will go from being hundreds of square feet of geometric optical madness to being one multi-colored lump of garbage. But that is the way of these time- and site- specific pieces, once they are history, they are really history: only documentation, fragments, and data will remain. Of course, the paintings on paper and board are (like traditional art pieces) enduring and portable and, for the 3/4 that did,'t sell, will be at Butters for now. butters site. my image gallery

Like Grammie Haggett used to say... All the rest is gravy, you little A-Hole.
No! I kid! I kid! My grandmother, Marjorie Haggett, bless her soul, was the sweetest. Tragically, she did not live until her mother's age of 106. She and her mom (in law) lived together in an ancient house in Portland, Maine unil "G-ma" (my great grand mother) was 100. Grammie was sharp as a tack, healthy and independant until the end, at the age of 96. This photo is three genereation of us Maine Haggetts playing cribbage. CLICK IT FOR A LARGER IMAGE
Also this: a cartoon I drew. Wild hair... anyhow, this is it:

I'm still writing, editing, and uploading this site. But I can just say that every time I check in. Before dropping that tedious theme forever, I should note how, last time I made an entry here, I should have called my mood "delusional" rather than "optimistic"... like I was just about to put the finishing touches on a bunch of photos I still hadn't gathered, formatted, marked, etc. let alone uploaded and all those little links.... arrgh!
Anyhow, this is the 1st day of the last week of my show at Butters: buttersgallery | images. I will miss it. The installation will largely be destroyed when it is taken down, all the wall vinyl will go from covering a few hundred square feet to being a multi-colored blob probably about the size of a bowling ball. Debris. But that is part of it: it wasn't before and it won't be after. SPHERES wall art is ephemeral. What remains is documentation and, of course, the SPHERES themselves in their true form.
And in conclusion, let me just say, I love coffee.

I'm still writing, editing, and uploading this site. Oy! Everything takes SO much longer than I think it will. But after some fig newtons and turning on my favorite internet radio station, Portland's own KNRK, I'm feeling like getting this done!

11.23.06, 4pm...
As 11:23pm (aka 'launch time') approaches, I still don't have much content plugged in. Most of it is written. I'm not quite ready to 'go live' as it were but this is the time, on the eve of 'Black Friday' 2006, 11.23, significantly. I will chalk it up to the SPHERELAB philosophy of open-endedness, the constantly evolving work-in-progress. I just wish I had the interactive tee shirt designer ready because I've gotten about 20 printed so far (no 2 alike) and they look sweet. Note to friends and family who are waiting for your shirts: I'm still trying to get some 'glamor shots' taken of them... I'll send 'em off soon.
