Born Sept 11, 1969, Matthew is an only child, raised  the son of a small-town veterinarian on an island off the coast of Maine. He has lived in Portland, Oregon since 1992.

With two art degrees (BA in painting & computer art, Connecticut College, 1991, MFA in painting & installation art, Portland State University, 1996), Matthew has worked as an agency graphic designer, graphic production manager and department manager, freelance graphic designer and production professional, and fine and commercial artist. Most recently, he has worked at turning SPHERES into SPHERELAB, a willingly-hard-to-define, post-modernist art-business / art-object / art-experience. His title at SPHERELAB is Boss Monster because you have to defeat him to get to the end of level nine.

Matthew is an artistic Jack-of-Many-Trades (or “Jack-of-All-Asses” as his wife lovingly refers to him). In addition to being a well- regarded abstract painter, illustrator, realistic painter, and graphic designer, Matthew has had to reign in his interests in music (drums, guitar, singer, songwriter) and writing (2 published chap books of poetry, 1 unfinished novel) to focus on his visual art business projects.

Matthew is Married to Melissa Marks. They are currently in the process of adopting a daughter. It will be a full house, with a couple dogs and a couple cats already on board. They live in the northern quadrant of beautiful, rainy Portland Oregon and hope to never live in another city.
