the SPHERELAB mission,

to be...

...a celebration of the visual experience
...an open art form, thriving on user participation
...an ethical business, responsible, honest.

we are post-modernists,
our model is the rhizome,
not the root

SPHERELAB’S
mission is multi-form, in its current state, divided into nine pieces:

1)    To disseminate SPHERES, thereby visually invigorating the world’s surfaces and promoting an expansive art form that invites deep user participation.

2)    The SPHERES mission is to erode traditional art boundaries with art that includes the user in design, installation, and definition while leaving the frame, the wall, the other traditional places of art, and existing as both time- and site-specific and time- and site-indeterminate art 'objects.'

3)   SPHERELAB’S mission is guided by a philosophy of postmodern openness and questioning: art does not just go in the frame. Where does it go? If “you” and “I” are both the artist, what then? [see PHILOSOPHY for more]

4)   SPHERELAB’S business plan is likewise open, based on partnerships, technology driven, and cultured for fast evolution (see EVOLUTION for more).

5)    As a business, SPHERELAB’S mission is to be good, ethical, and honest: obey the golden rule even in the context of humanistic relativism and modern corporate culture. To temper profit motive with a core belief in altruism, financial modesty, and the primacy of the greater mission.

6)    Aesthetically, SPHERELAB'S mission adheres only to self-referential doctrine: SPHERES being what they are but otherwise open to a range of aesthetic styles, applications, and interpretations. While expressing the attributes of themselves, SPHERES are presented as open to myriad user-initiated expressions.

7)    Aesthetically, SPHERES are modern / postmodern, Scandinavian, California hip, meditative, Ikea-ish, pop-art, op-art, retro-futuristic, techno-tiki-chic. SPHERELAB’S mission is to groove with that whole vibe.

8)   SPHERELAB’S mission is to change art, just a little, forever. Due to non-linear dynamics, mission accomplished.

9)   SPHERELAB’S mission is to be an engine of beauty and ultimately for the love, harmony, and goodness for which beauty stands. See (7), star child. Peace!
